Still Confused on what a pawn shop is exactly?

No problem, check it out…

pawnbroker is an individual or business (pawn shop or pawn shop) that offers secured loans to people, with items of personal property used as collateral. The word pawn is derived from the Latinpignus, for pledge, and the items having been pawned to the broker are themselves called pledges or pawns, or simply the collateral.

If an item is pawned for a loan, within a certain contractual period of time the pawner may redeem it for the amount of the loan plus some agreed-upon amount for interest. The amount of time, and rate of interest, is governed by law or by the pawnbroker’s policies. If the loan is not paid (or extended, if applicable) within the time period, the pawned item will be offered for sale by the pawnbroker. Unlike other lenders, the pawnbroker does not report the defaulted loan on the customer’s credit report, since the pawnbroker has physical possession of the item and may recoup the loan value through outright sale of the item. The pawnbroker also sells items that have been sold outright to them by customers.

Basically they help you get cash for your items when you need it.

It’s actually really easy to use in most cases. And pawn shops are virtually everywhere. Most major cities have at least 3 or 4.

Ohio Has Unique Pawn Shop Laws

4_aLearn How Pawn Shop Must Operate In Ohio in one quick article.

Ohio pawn laws aren’t incredibly complicated. Basically pawn loans cost roughly 5% interest + $4 in storage every month.

You can get a pawn loan with just a valid photo ID (it’s got to have some kind of unique identification number on it.)

If you are visiting Ohio and are concerned that you may need a loan while you are here, you’ve got nothing to worry about. You don’t need to be an Ohio citizen to make a pawn in Ohio. And your out-of-state ID will be just fine. The state law doesn’t say anything about someone having to use an Ohio ID card.

Ohio Facts:

OhioListeni/ˈh./ is a state in the MidwesternUnited States. Ohio is the 34th largest (by area), the 7th most populous, and the 10th most densely populated of the 50 United States. The state’s capital and largest city is Columbus.

The name “Ohio” originated from Iroquois word ohi-yo’, meaning “great river” or “large creek”.[17][18][19][20] The state, originally partitioned from theNorthwest Territory, was admitted to the Union as the 17th state (and the first under the Northwest Ordinance) on March 1, 1803.[9][21] Although there are conflicting narratives regarding the origin of the nickname, Ohio is historically known as the “Buckeye State” (relating to the Ohio buckeye tree) and Ohioans are also known as “Buckeyes”.[2]

The government of Ohio is composed of the executive branch, led by the Governor; the legislative branch, which comprises the Ohio General Assembly; and the judicial branch, which is led by the Supreme Court. Currently, Ohio occupies 16 seats in the United States House of Representatives.[22] Ohio is known for its status as both a swing state[23] and a bellwether[23] in national elections.

Pawn Shop Tutorial – How They Work

3_aSo you want the low down on how pawn shop work huh?

No problem. The Head Nerd has you handled here guys and gals.

If you check the post, you will see that pawn shops really aren’t that complicated. In fact they are rather simple operations.

But that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t take any skill or talent to run one. Just the opposite.

Understanding the customer

When people come onto a pawn shop they are already pretty desperate and probably having a really bad day.

You’ve got to have some idea of what they may be going through and really put yourself in their shoes.

If you are able to understand the people, you will go far in this business… but that’s a skill, a talent and not everyone has it.

Learn What A Pawn Shop Actually Does…

ImageA lot of people don’t actually know what a pawn shop does, so I took a few moments to answer that question.

A quick recap would be that pawn shops help people. We help people get through tough times by giving them the money they need to pay bills or get through what problems they may be facing.

Further more, not only do we loan them the money that lets them do that – but it’s cheap to get a loan. In most states a pawn loan is much more affordable than other types of short term financial services.

All you need to do is bring you item in and have it evaluated. If the pawnbroker can make a loan on your item, we do so quickly and with virtually no hassle.

As stated above, the terms of repayment are cost effective and if for whatever reason you can’t afford to pay back your loan, it doesn’t go on your credit record or anything ridiculous like that.

An example of a more expensive loan would be something like a payday loan or cash advance. Not only can these types of loans cost you a lot of money, but they require things that some people may not have.

It doesn’t matter what kind of job you have, if you have a checking account or not – you don’t even need to have a phone to get a pawn loan.
